Jill contacted Dalton Unlimited to discuss her website. She wanted to expand her website by adding additional pages and photos.

Dixie worked with Jill to identify goals for the Simply Organized website. She then reviewed the website in detail, and drew up a list of recommended changes to achieve Jill's goals:

Navigation:

  • Change the website menu from horizontal to left-side vertical. Horizontal menus are limited by the width of the page; vertical menus can expand to accommodate additional pages. This allows the menu to grow as Jill's business grows.
  • Alphabetize the menu items between Home and Contact Us, making the menu quicker to skim.
  • Add a drop-down menu to let visitors easily move between photo pages - Basements, Closets/Cabinets, Kitchens, Offices/Paper.

Customer Contact:

  • Modify the Contact Us page to include a customized thank-you email. Install protection on the form to limit the number of spam emails Jill receives.
  • Add Jill's phone, city/state, and email to all pages.

Marketing:

  • Add a simple animation in the right column, showcasing two before and after photos, sandwiched between marketing copy - “From Frustrated...To Delighted..Simply Organized, LLC.”
  • Add a “free taste” box to let customers signup to receive a free e-gift. When the customer completes the form, the code emails:
    • the signup info to Jill
    • a custom message to the customer with a link to download their e-gift.

Newsletter:

  • Create a newsletter archive page to allow customers to access prior editions of the newsletter. Jill’s newsletters contain a great deal of useful information on organizing and are a wonderful selling tool for her business.

Maintenance:

  • Modify the pages so the header, footer, and column content are located in single files. This keeps the wording consistent and speeds updates.
  • Change the site to include an editing system, so Jill can update the site herself, including uploading new photos and PDF documents.
  • Create a user manual for Jill about the site, including illustrated instructions on how to use the editing system.
  • Change the copyright notice so the year updates automatically.
